I was born and brought up in the English Lake District, where I have walked and climbed for most of my life. I was educated as a scientist and taught chemistry for many years, before becoming a full-time writer. My particular interests are in travel and science, with the travel emphasis largely on outdoor topics, including hill-walking, mountaineering, nature and conservation. I write extensively about the North of England, where I live and Scotland and Ireland, which I visit frequently. I have also visited, and written about Norway, The Italian Dolomites, Lanzarote, Madeira, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Bangkok. My published articles have appeared in numerous magazines and newspapers in the UK and Ireland. Awards: Outdoor Writers' Guild Award for Excellence (Feature) 2005 and 2006, (Travel Feature) 2007. |
