I have been a writer/columnist/designer/editor/photographer/writing coach for more than a quarter-century working in newspapers, magazines, Web sites and other media. My work has been published in local, regional, national and international publications. My specialties include history, film, music, photography, news and other media, publication design and Web site design. I started my own small press publishing company in 1983, called Zirlinson Publishing with a couple of friends. Since then we have published more than 60 chapbooks of poetry, another dozen or so of fiction and a handful of non-fiction works. While we have published work of mine, we also have produced works by others. I run two Web sites. The first is www.gettingink.net about publication design, public relations and writing. It is run with Richard Nilsen. The second, www.deathaday.org, is a satirical look at death and popular culture. It is run with Gary Ziroli. We publish writing, photos and artwork. My non-fiction has appeared in many newspapers, primarily in the Northeast, including a column called Hitchhiker in Time that has appeared in seven newspapers. I also have written for magazines including MacWEEK, Macintosh-Aided Design, Boys Life, Macworld, Publish, Home Office Computing and others. I also have ghost-written high tech articles for several publications. I started, edited and published magazines including The Antediluvian Levee, The Game's Afoot and Ride of the Horsemen. I have made a couple of small films and presentations on subjects from art and writing to medical. |
