Theresa "Ann" White is involved in a variety of writing areas including poetry, historical fiction, educational and legal issues, retail trade and print journalism. She has been widely published and anthologized and was honored with a Pushcart Prize Nomination for her poetry. She began editing and writing in the 1980s for a weekly newspaper, moved to a daily and then to a magazine house where she served as the editor of a national publication for the retail party trade. From that position, Ann branched out as an entrepreneur. For about nine years, she ran a graphic design business from her home called Data on Demand. In the mid-1990s, she launched her own publication. Called Entree, this was a monthly, tab-sized specialty paper with an editorial focus on women-owned businesses. Entree was ahead of its time and at its peak, had a circulation of 5,000 readers. During this time, Ann continued to write on a freelance basis and her articles were published in magazines as varied as VFW Magazine, Holistic Education Review, Florida Living and Office Depot Business News. In the early 2000's, her attention was split between writing a historical fiction on an early Florida settler and training as a paralegal. Around this time, Ann began working at a community college in Florida and continues this position today, advising refugee and asylee students from all over the world. Recently, Ann began writing fact-based online content. In addition to Suite101, she also contributes articles to Helium.com. However, Ann has strong ties to the poetry world. In late 2008, she began a wiki called Women Poets Reader Directory, a free service to unite poets with organizations needing poets for readings, writing festivals and other events. In addition, Ann maintains three blogs: Fresh Ink, The Workshop Discontent and The Red Hibiscus. Ann received her Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing/Poetry from Antioch University Los Angeles. She has a BA in Communications and a two year degree in paralegal studies. Despite her activity online, Ann has time to bike, walk, garden, read and write poetry and care for her companion animals. Currently, she is in the process of renovating a1929 bungalow, which is listed as a Historical Structure with the State of Florida. She's discovered that there is no end to the amount of energy available to each of us. |
