Anita Riggio is the author of a forthcoming middle grade novel Jitterbug, and author and illustrator of Smack Dab in the Middle, Beware the Brindlebeast, Secret Signs, A Moon in My Teacup, Gert & Freida, and Wake Up William! as well as illustrator of The Whispering Cloth, Coal Mine Peaches, Dad Gummit & Ma Foot, and other picture books. Her story "Bingo" appears Such a Pretty Face, a collection of short stories on beauty for young adults. A stage adaptation of Beware the Brindlebeast and a play How Ladybug Got Her Name are being performed by the Little theatre of the Deaf, the touring company of the National Theatre of the Deaf during its 40th anniversary season in 2007-2008.
Anita's highly acclaimed Coveside Writing Workshops are offered annually in the fall and she is a faculty mentor in the MFA in Creative Writing Program at Lesley University. In addition to writing, illustrating and teaching, Anita's enterprise, Red Shoes Events specializes in planning and producing events in the arts, theater and children's book communities.
Anita and her husband have two grown children and live in Connecticut with their dog Nelle.
