A look at five steps that are crucial to being a writer, whether you're a poet, a playwright, or a freelance journalist.
Andrea has a BA in English and Creative Writing from the University of Alberta, and will be pursuing her MLitt in Dramaturgy and Playwriting at the University of Glasgow starting September 2009. She has written, directed, and produced two of her own stage plays, and is currently working on two more for the coming year. (Check out Cowardly Kiss Theatre on Facebook.) Andrea has been published in FreeFall Magazine (Calgary), and has been nominated for numerous writing awards, the most recent being The Writers' Trust of Canada/McClelland & Stewart Journey Prize. While her main focus is drama, Andrea is also a frequent writer of short fiction and creative non-fiction. In addition to writing, Andrea is also a lover of film (favourite genres/types: British, Scottish, and Irish films, Foreign films, and horror films, especially 50s B-Movies), learning languages (next on the list: refining her Irish and starting on Japanese), and cooking (vegan/vegetarian). She collects tattoos and antique copies of Oscar Wilde's works; she has an uncanny memory for faces and names; she likes things weird and different; she thinks Tom Waits is a genius. |
