Anju Mootilal has a wide variety of professional experiences in psychology and education. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Specialized Honours) degree from York University, Toronto, Ontario in 1990. Soon afterwards, Anju began working as a Residential Counsellor at the Bob Rumball School for the Deaf in North York. A year later, Anju worked as an Educational Assistant with the Toronto Board of Education and as a private tutor, while pursuing her Master of Arts degree part-time.
Anju graduated in 1993 with an M.A. in Applied Psychology from the University of Toronto. The University of Toronoto awarded Anju a full scholarship to pursue a Doctorate degree. However, she was also accepted into the Faculty of Education at the University of Toronto. Although it was a tough decision to make, Anju chose to pursue a career in teaching. She graduated with a Bachelors of Education from the University of Toronto in 1994. That same year, Anju gained employment as a substitue teacher with the Scarborough Board of Education and as a Psychology Instructor for DeVry Institute of Technology . In 1995, Anju was hired by the Toronto District Board of Education as a Special Education Teacher.
During her the last thirteen years, Anju has accumulated a number of teaching and publishing credentials in psychology, mathematics, and elementary education. Her Masters' dissertation dealing with the social adjustment of deaf adolescents was published in 1996 (see jdsde.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/reprint/1/1/52.pdf for the complete artcle). In 1997, Anju self-published The Parent Partnerhsip Manual, a hands-on activities manual for parents who wanted to provide academic enrichment for their children. In 2006, S & S Learning, and educational publishing company, hired Anju to write a social studies resource unit focussed on exploring Canada and its connections to the rest of the world. In 2007, Canada's Links to The World: Grades 6 - 8 was made available to the public. In 2007, Anju completed intensive training courses in school administration and hopes to one day become a Principal. In 2007 and 2008, Anju initiated and co-ordinated two large scale Career Days at her school (one of which was televised by a local TV station) in the hopes of bringing more awareness to alternative career pathways, such as trades and apprenticeship programs, over more traditional ones (i.e., college and university).
Anju currently works as a junior high special education teacher and a freelance writer specializing in family relationships, working moms, and parenting. She lives with her husband, four children, a dog, and two cats in Toronto, Ontario.
