Sapna Nayyar-Pellicane

Suite101.com Contributing Writer
This is Sapna on her wedding day in May 2008. , Sapna's sister took the picture.

Since the tender age of five or six, Sapna has enjoyed writing. She used to create and write short stories until her final year of high school, and would like to get back into doing that. Sapna has also written many articles for South Asian community newspapers in Canada (India Journal, The South Asian Voice), and for small publications in Canada and the US (The Next Step Magazine, newsletters published by the Editors' Association of Canada and DigitalEve Toronto, as well as a press release for the Public Relations Society of America) on subjects such as higher education, career options, and more recently, popular music (Associated Content), and would like to continue this type of journalistic writing also, which she learned in her post-baccalaureate journalism course. Sapna tends to write most about subjects that she can also relate to on a personal level. Writers are after all advised to "write about what they know" in creative writing classes, such as those Sapna took in her undergraduate college career as an English major. In joining this web site, she hopes to hone her professional writing skills and her creativity in general.

Sapna has been fortunate to have lived in four different countries: Canada, India, China, and now the US, where she also happens to have been born. Sapna believes that this exposure to different cultures and ways of life would also help her enhance her writing skills. She has also worked in various offices as a communications professional and also as an administrative professional, and is now making a transition to teacher aide for preschool-grade 6 in a private or public school. She hopes to develop a good rapport with her potential teacher supervisor and the students, and in the process, get them interested in eating and preparing delicious and healthy food (the two don't have to be mutually exclusive), and in personal and career development.

Sapna enjoys watching the Food Network, meeting new people, spending quality time with her husband, her family, and her friends, trying new restaurants and cafes, experimenting with cooking, going for walks, riding her new bike, swimming, traveling, and various creative pursuits, such as writing, arts, and crafts. She also likes to sing along with her music when she thinks no one is listening and dance when she thinks no one is watching.
