I recently graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelors of Arts in English, emphasis creative writing, and a minor in journalism. During my time at WMU, I studied all sorts of literature, including American, British, Asian, Russian, Mid-Evil and detective fiction. As a journalism student, I learned how to write in Associated Press Style, and took valuable editing and interviewing skills away with me.
As a creative writing student, I took many writing workshop classes, including classes in fiction, poetry, and playwriting. Early on, playwriting became a passion of mine, and quickly became a large focus in my studies. I have had three plays selected for staged reading programs, two years in the New Play Project program, and one in the Theater Kalamazoo Staged Reading program. During both of these experiences, my plays were assigned directors and a company of actors, and given staged reading productions.
I was also fortunate enough to be able to study directing at WMU under Mark Liermann, the directing professor. I have directed a plethora of short scenes, and ten and thirty-minute scenes as full productions.
My passion for writing id defiantly in the front of my mind as I move forward with my life. I hope to be able to effect change, and possibly show people a different way of thinking.
