Alicia M. Gutierrez, self portrait

Alicia Gutierrez was born in Spain to a Spanish mother and American father and spent her childhood and teen years living in Europe, South America, Mexico and the USA. As a child she wrote short stories, poems, songs and even a novel about time travel which became a big hit at her school. When she was 18 she travelled back to Spain where she spent a couple years teaching English before moving to Arizona to fulfill her dream of pursuing a journalism degree.

In 2005 she graduated from Northern Arizona University with a bachelor's degree in journalism and photography, and a minor degree in advertising. She has since married a New Zealander, moved to Australia, become a mother and worked as a journalist for a lifestyle magazine on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.

As a journalist she has interviewed music and radio celebrities, written food, film and book reviews, travel journals and stories on just about everything under the sun. As a health afficionado (especially after becoming a mother and realising how many new mothers struggle with their weight) and experience as a fitness instructor focusing on women's wellbeing, Alicia also enjoys researching and writing about health, fitness and nutrition, along with the wonderful and whacky adventures of parenting.

During the past year, Alicia has worked as a real estate and special publication journalist, writing for motoring, boating, bridal and tourist publications and spending a lot of that time researching the intriguing world of real estate. Her hobbies include photography, music, movies, crafts, hiking, camping, the great outdoors and she is passionate about travel and making the world a more unified and tolerant place.
