Born and raised in Manila, Philippines, she obtained her Bachelor of Science (Nutrition) from the Philippine Women's University. After spending a year in Sweden, she immigrated to Canada where she furthered her studies. After completing the Graduate Dietetic Internship Program at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario, she was employed as a clinical dietitian in Ontario, and as a dietitian-manager, and director of dietetics in Newfoundland and Labrador. As a health care manager , she felt proficiency in health care administration was critical and studied Health Care Administration from the University of Saskatchewan.

During her tenure as director of dietetics, she established Outreach Nutrition Clinics in four medical districts and collaborated in the operation of a hospital-based Diabetic Clinic. As a former dietitian, she counselled many individuals and groups of people about normal and therapeutic nutrition. She also supervised a dietetic internship program for four years, and directed the continuing education program of dietary staff.

She is currently working as a freelance writer and promotes Dietitians of Canada's annual Nutrition Month campaign, Diabetes Awareness Month, Cholesterol Education, and Health Promotion in the community.

As a type 2 diabetic with familial hypercholesterolemia, she is a patient-expert, follows a personalized diabetic eating plan, exercises regularly (loves yoga, aerobic dance, weightlifting, and ballet exercises), and takes an antidiabetic medication. She is an active member of Dietitians of Canada (DC) and Dietitians of Newfoundland and Labrador(DNL)

When she's not writing or modifying traditional recipes, she's busy in her "potagerie" tending her heirloom roses, prized oriental lilies, fruiting trees, and vegetable crops, and capturing their images in canvas using oil, acrylic, or ink mediums.
