INTERNATIONAL PORTFOLIO

Suite 101's author, Judy Joyce, is is also a, lecturer, speaker, political consultant, trial attorney, and international delegate in Conflict Resolution. Her creative interests have taken her from expository writing like a treatise on "Legal Metaphysics in an Age of Disbelief" to short story and fiction novel genres begun while sitting on the Board of Directors of the Palm Springs Writers Guild.

From these broad perspectives and influences, Judy has written and published widely on legal topics both foreign and domestic, as well as, works of secular, spiritual, and theological interest. Creatively inspired to advance her interests in the arts and culture, Judy sketches, paints, and at one time produced a Noel Coward play performed by the Sausalito Players of Marin County, California. She also developed a training course for California Bar Association members based on the works of Charles Dickens.

As a delegate in International Conflict Resolution to New Zealand and Australia in 2002. she went on to become a Judiciary Law delegate to South Africa in 2003. As the first California lawyer to meet with the Constitutional Court, the High Court of Appeal, and the Magistrate Court post-apartheid, Judy traveled with 32 U.S. Federal and State judges. OXFORD UNIVERSITY

The Law School Program at Oxford was a marvelous experience where our group of United States attorneys enjoyed not just the study sessions with Oxford's legal Dons, but living on campus at Magdalen College. Magdalen remains as bucolic as it must have been when Oscar Wilde, C.S. Lewis, and J.R.R. Tolkien walked the quad.

"Having our own key to the University's libraries was a heady experience. I so enjoyed one on one afternoons with Colin Dexter, Oxford author of the "Inspector Morse" series of books" Judy stated . The PBS series based on Inspector Morse is one of her favorites. Colin Tapper, who wrote the United Kingdom's definitive work on the Rules of Evidence was another charming and brilliiant lecturer. But, wonderful authors of all genres and interests fill the halls of the world's premiere institution of higher learning

With a child's mind, it is sheer delight to visit Christ Church college there.Waking up the massive staircaae and into the dining hall used for the Harry Potter films brings fantasy to life. Tucked in a corner of the Dining Hall is a non-descript painting of someone who looks familar but hard to place when reading the name, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson. Eventually, it dawns on you or someone whispers, "That's Lewis Carroll of Alice in Wonderland fame. He was a mathematics lecturer here". Oxford is truly a writer's paradise.

A LADY IN A BLUE DRESS - A PERSONAL STORY FROM S.AFRICA

The agendas for these high level meetings as a Judicial Law delegate to the Constitutional Court of South Africa included discussions of access to justice for the underrepresented in a transitional democracy including first hand experience in Soweto and Hout Bay. Meetings with Law School faculties of the University of South Africa and Capetown Law School shed additional light on the issues facing the court system. Like the Maori of New Zealand, the Aborigine of Australia and the customary laws of S. Africa's tribal communities, each culture is struggling to provide it's citizens with legal systems that are accessible, fair, and just. Judy writes about these struggles in articles, short stories, and now novels. Her most recent publication on Amazon.com's Kindle Books is entitled "A Lady in a Blue Dress" and inspires much of her work.

As a former member of California Lawyers for the Arts, Judy contributed to the Arts through pro bono representations of members of the artistic community including such things as negotiating disputes among members of a well- known symphony orchestra to a photographer left to languish on the road and unpaid for her work traveling the United States backroads shooting America's rural mailboxes for a client who shall remain unnamed.

At one point - a street-artist jewelry maker, selling her wares not too far from a meeting of the American Bar Association - needed assistance with the Arts Commission in a well-known city by the bay. The artist was so grateful for Judy's help with the Commission, she presented her with only one of two sets of earrings and a bracelet that she'd made. The other set, the artist informed Judy, was purchased by Hillary Clinton visiting the artists booth between Hillary's speaking engagements at the ABA.

WRITING - BEYOND LEGAL BRIEFS AND TREATISES

Befpre making a commitment to write full time, Judy sustained a pace that surprises even her with it’s intensity and it’s challenges just getting started. She began easing from her legal career life to writing for Editor Bill May at Newsbalance.com. This online e-zine is noted for it’s dedication to balanced presentations on issues of interest from Pop Culture to Public Affairs. In going to Newsbalance, she chose to write thought-provoking articles such as "Holy Hip-Hop" about musicians dedicated to bringing a positive message directed into the lives of a youth population mesmerized by ‘gangsta’ rap. Her reportage of Bill Clinton’s interview on the David Letterman show entitled "Tweeking Late Night Clinton Doctrine", was as erudite as her follow-up discussions on "Exploding the Myth of the Baby Boomers."

When joining the Helium.com team, Judy had an established literary website proseandpaleale.com. followed by blogs and podcasts. At Helium, she has written well over 125 articles and received acknowledgments of her consistently high rankings among ratings by other writers. She became a Marketplace Premier Writer within a few short weeks of consistent writing and winning submissions.

No longer living in the San Francisco Bay Area, Judy’s public appearances on television and radio have taken a backseat to speaking engagements and lectures. Topics now span public interest more focused on the arts. "Life as Art" is one of her favorite presentations to live audience venues, though she has presented lectures on ethics where legal professionals have gained accreditation from the State Bar. As a member of the Markkula Institute of Applied Ethics., Judy was a legal ethics presenter as recently as 2007 for the University of California School of Law and Public Policy.
