Garrett Edward Godwin - Profile

<p>From elementary to high school, the road to journalism began for Garrett Edward Godwin when watching CNN Headline News and Channel One News. It was then on that he knew that it was what he wanted to do when he grows up.</p> <p>Garrett went to the University of Michigan-Dearborn, where he majored in Communications and studied both print journalism and electronic media. While going to UM-Dearborn, he has written features and perspectives for <i>The Michigan Journal</i>. Garrett was also a guest student for one semester at Wayne State University, where he wrote for <i>The South End</i>. He graduated from the University of Michigan-Dearborn with a B.A. degree in Communications in April 2007.</p> <p>Garrett's mentors in journalism includes <i>Metro Times</i> columnist Jack Lessenberry, Tim Kiska, Alan Fisk; Nancy Lee Wolfe and Judyth Piazza from <i>The Student Operated Press </i>(<i>SOP</i>), an online news site he has been with since February 2006.</p> <p>Since college, his profile increases with writing features, profiles, entertainment, and perspectives for <i>AmericaJR.com</i>, <i>Newsblaze</i>, and <i>Petoskey Local News</i>.</p> <p>Besides journalism, Garrett has been a DJ with WUMD Radio and is now the host of <i>Go Now</i>, which can be heard online at <a href="http://www.thesop.org">www.thesop.org</a>.</p> <p>He has also been involved with Janice Smith and her theatre group, The Detroit Academy For Creative Excellence, and performed skits with his friends from InterVarsity Christian Fellowship.</p> <p>An avid movie and television buff, Garrett's list includes the <i>Rocky</i> series, <i>The Lake House</i>, <i>Smallville</i>, <i>Torchwood</i>, <i>NCIS</i>, <i>CSI: Miami</i>, <i>Supernatural</i>, and <i>Walker, Texas Ranger</i>. He also enjoys daytime soaps such as <i>General Hospital</i>, which includes one of his favorite couples, Elizabeth Webber and Jason Morgan, known to fans as Liason.</p> <p>He has done volunteer work with friends from Shiloh Ministries, and plans on doing more in the near future as well as more theatre/acting/drama.</p> <p>Potential future plans includes running a newspaper one day, hosting a show similar to <i>American Bandstand </i>and <i>Soul Train</i>, and write short stories.
