Sue Kimbel - Profile

My name is Sue and I live in northern Indiana. I've been interested in art since high school. Over the last 20+ years, my creative energies have been mainly directed toward gardening, sewing and photography. In the spring of 1999 I took some time with myself and went on a self-made art retreat. I wanted to put more art into my life...along the lines of things we had done in school. I looked into ceramics but didn't find the right fit. Just down the street from my home a stained glass artist has a studio and he also gives lessons. It was one of those things that I knew about and had said to myself many times, "...one of these days I'm going to do that...." Well, the day arrived!

Since then I've set up my own workshop at home and have completed a number of projects. I've even started designing my own pieces. I've learned a lot about the various types of glass and have even developed an interest in the history of stained glass in America, which, along with current trends, I've started to research. I live in an old house with wonderful oak woodwork and stained glass fits in perfectly with its 1912 vintage.

While I'm rather new to this, its only fitting for me to write about it as stained glass is making a comeback and gaining in popularity. The readers and I can go on "adventures in glass" and learn together.

I already spend at least 2 hours a day online from both home and my office. I have a laptop which is wonderful...everything is always with me.

As you may have guessed from what I've already said I also like antiques and historic preservation. (My home is a designated single site historic district.) My twin sister is the one who told me about Suite101.

My list of bookmarks is long. Most of them are related to antiques, glass, low carb living and historic preservation, with a lot of miscellaneous thrown in. I'm a frequent vistor to Amazon.com, eBay and NorthernLight.
