Hi! My name is Pat Williams and I have been involved with dogs for over 40 years, exotic birds 15 years and just about every house pet you can name at one time or another.
As a store manager for PetsMart I was in charge of all live animals (PetsMart does not sell cats or dogs but does have a space for the humane society to process adoptions)Including but not limited to fish, reptiles, birds, hamsters, mice, rats, you name it.
As a dog enthusiast I have owned, bred, handled, and trained Newfoundlands and several other breeds over the course of my lifetime. I have shown Newfoundlands and English Bull dogs ( mostly my own but have handled for others as well) My Newfoundlands were not only show dogs but working dogs too. We did obedience, water rescue training and hauling (carting).
I believe owning a pet is very much akin to having a child. They do not ask to be brought into our homes and must rely on our sense of responsibility and good faith.
Lack of basic care, feeding, grooming, exercise, health care in my opinion is the same as abuse. I believe there are no bad dogs just bad or misinformed owners.
A little knowledge is a powerful thing and used properly can make life for all concerned, a happy one.
I am also a writer, poet and former columnist on pet care for a local newspaper. I have also written for the Newfoundlands of America Club national magazine.
I now write at AllPoetry.com under http://allpoetry.com/poets/StrmDncr
