Sarah B. Hood has published hundreds of magazine articles in dozens of periodicals, including Movie Entertainment, Style, Enroute, Canadian Living, Spacing, Canadian Gardening, Toronto Life, Canadian Business and Bicycling. In 2003, she co-authored the book Toronto: The Unknown City with Howard Akler (Arsenal Pulp Press); she continues her urban explorations at her Unknown Toronto blog. She is a contributor to popular essay collections published by Coach House Press: The State of the Arts (2006) and GreenTOpia: Towards a Sustainable Toronto (2007), and to both the Berlitz Pocket Guide and the Insight Guide to Toronto.

Sarah has special expertise as an arts journalist, and has served as editor of three Canadian magazines about the performing arts. She has won awards from the Canada Council and the Ontario Arts Council. She received an Honourable Mention at the 1990 National Magazine Awards (Culture and Entertainment category) and served as the president of the Canadian Theatre Critics Association. She contributed two articles to the Summer 2007 issue of Spacing magazine, nominated for for Best Editorial Package at the 2008 National Magazine Awards. She was shortlisted for the 2008 Kenneth R. Wilson Awards for business writing (Best Retail Article category) for her piece "The Power of Prestige", on gold prices and the Canadian retail jewellery industry in Canadian Jeweller.

Sarah also lectures on writing, arts and culture in the Centre for Arts and Design at Toronto's George Brown College, where she co-ordinates the publication of a student fashion magazine called Oh, George!, among other duties.
