Sandra Reaves - Profile

I started my professional horticulture career in 1988 hiring myself out as a laborer for residential work. I had little experience, but a lot of enthusiasm and the ability to still smile after a day in 98 degree heat.

Since then, I've earned an AAS in Agricultural Technologies, a BS in Horticultural Therapy, been the "plant question lady" for the Jefferson County Alabama Extension Service, did a stint as Director of Education for the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, and turned into a writer when I was the garden columnist for the Birmingham Post Herald. Certified in landscape design, installation, and maintenance, I currently enjoy teaching informally and providing horticultural and property consulting services.

The best thing about gardening is sharing experiences and information. People with absolutely nothing else in common become fast friends leaning on a hoe and jawing about tomatoes, the latest floral find, and making compost. Hopefully, you and I will enjoy sharing and learning more about gardening together.
