Rachel Lindley - Profile

I am a writer of about 10 years originally from Long Beach, CA. I love writing and drawing as well as giving advice on movies and relationships and creating movie reviews for new releases. I have a profile at yahoo for giving advice on 'women' and 'movies' topics and I spend a pretty good amount of time on the net writing and researching. I'm also the new release film critic at a small organization called CinemaGap.

My brother had a great influence on me not only with my writing but because we shared so many ideas together. We both grew up on sci fi and the classics and we both wanted to go into film.

I was about ten when I wrote my first story for a contest in a Disney magazine. I stopped writing for awhile after that and continued with my drawing. Two years passed until I wrote my first play for myself. I continued writing for myself until my brother told me I should go into film. I wanted to be a producer then since I wanted all the control but my brother said, "Why don't you just become a director?" I went with that in my head for awhile and not until I saw Independence Day or The Fifth Element did I ever really consider filmmaking. I know most great directors are influenced by Kubrick or Scorsese but I found myself drawn to David Lynch and Alfred Hitchcock (both my favorite directors). I wanted to do what Hitchcock did and what he aspired to do. Get the people's butts in the seats and catch them by the throat and hold them there for 120 minutes. Spellbound them and make them forget where they were. I admire David Lynch for his brilliant visual style and unique storytelling as well as a mutual love for jazz and art that I share with him.

I heard about Suite 101 when I was searching for writing jobs and I figured it'd be great to do since I've always wanted to write articles for an organization on a regular basis.
