Kate Evans - Profile

I have had a passion for politics and writing ever since I was a teenager and since I read The Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin. At university where I studied politics and modern history, I was given the Pankhurst Award for screaming about women's rights! After this experience, I searched around for a way to put my social concerns into practice. I worked on a project for women returning to employment and then spent five years abroad working for a voluntary organisation concerned with poverty and human rights. I have written for such publications as Everywoman, Volunteering, The Independent and The Guardian. I have come to understand that social change only comes from people action and that you gain more than you give by volunteering.
