A college english instructor once asked if I had proofread my paper before handing it in. My response, "Of course not, by the time I got the thing finished it was well after midnight and I had to turn it in that morning." I spent much more time trying to come up with something to say than putting it on paper. I still have that problem though not as bad. My daughter, an english major, gave me a Christmas present a few years back that helped me more than most of my school writing classes. It was a yogurt cup filled with little rolled slips of paper. On each slip was a subject or question for me to write on (50 in all, about one a week for a year) conceived by my daughter and three grandchildren. I actually finished them all though I did substitute different or modified topics for a few. I could only write a page to a page and a half on each subject which must be a habit developed in school where we had to write 200-500 word themes. If there are any english teachers out there, you could have each student select a topic and then have each student write a paper on each one during the year. It would save you from the burden of picking insightful topics. If You do try this, don't tell anyone where you got the idea. I value my life, what's left of it, too much to give it up now. Back to the grandchildrens topics; they only have themselves to blame if they don't like what is included in my personal history. They picked the subjects.
