Marsden MacRae - Profile

The last new book I finished was: "Cerulean Sins" by Laurel K. Hamilton

The book I'm currently reading is: "The Return of Retief" by Keith Laumer.

I hooked up with Suite101 due to an interest in Numenorean geneology.

As well as a passion for stray Numenoreans, I enjoy learning about and riding trains, preferably those pulled by steam engines, and preferably accompanied by my Irish Setter. I REALLY miss my old train-riding companion, my dad who passed away awhile ago, and am seeking a railfan penpal to correspond with and maybe ride the odd rail or two. If you know any railfans, send them my way! They can reach me at mmacrae@earthlink.net.

How about it? Anybody out there want to correspond with a railfan?

In an effort to chase trains, I enjoy camping whenever I can hit the road with the husband and the kids, or other friends.

I spent 10 years very happily employed as a legal secretary and Linux/Windows sysadmin. See http://www.lfhc.com Our small law firm had 4 Linux desktops, 1 Linux server, 1 Linux print server, 1 NetScreen firewall administered under Linux and 4 Win boxes. I dabble in the Linux information here on Suite101, but there doesn't seem to be much of it.

I'm now working in a Fire Suppression company in California. See www.liegecorp.com

Other interests include counter-guerilla warfare, seti@home (well over 10,000 workunits on the old system), reading and writing. I teach various topics for the Society for Creative Anachronism and other organizations, and picking through old suite101 articles helps with my research.

I teach Scottish and English Country Dance and Renaissance Court dance to unsuspecting folk who think they "can't dance," especially members of the Society for Creative Anachronism. In August 2003 I attended the RSCDS summer school in St. Andrews Scotland and passed the Preliminary exam. I'm now teaching Scottish Country Dancing several nights a week. My friends say I'm "too busy" what with up to 4 dance practices per week, dog training and medieval tournaments on weekends. I can't see their point, can you?

I also teach classes in Fealty for the Society for Creative Anachronism, and have recently completed a syllabus for a class of stories illustrating the virtues of a good squire.

I'm studying for Linux certification with a mentor, but I'm obviously certifiable right now, *without* taking any tests. I'll never figure out sed or awk, but at least I now have a grasp of emacs.

I also enjoy cooking for the men in my household, so I collect hearty, manly recipes. I don't get enough time for trail riding or hiking, but I do it when I can.

Someday "when I have time" I'd like to go back to fencing, archery and dressage.

Obsessions not already mentioned include Diablo II, Titan Quest, the Lord of the Rings, steam engines, and ecumenical theological studies.

Last but not least, I'm living proof that breathing is optional and that it's possible to take your dogs everywhere, including church.

No human kids: 3 dogs, 1 retired horse, 1 husband. Trust me that combination is just as much work as kids! If you think we sound interesting, you can meet us at http://www.jetcafe.org/bruce or see my suite101 homepage (link above), email me at mmacrae@earthlink.net or catch me on suitetalk.
