Morgan the 'Sal'man

Suite101 Member

Morgan has been hitchhiking the U.S. for about 12 years now, and has met the most incredible folks in every corner of the country. Growing up in suburban Phoenix, Arizona, he played with tumbleweeds, rode bikes in dirt lots, mangled the neighbor's wheat farm, occassionally set things on fire, and dug caverns in his back yard. Morgan also spent a lot of time geeking out in the library or in front of video games.

At 16, he took running away to a new, personal extreme by hopping a plane to the next city over (Albuquerque, New Mexico), then hitchhiking for the first time (to Gallup- the armpit of America). On the street he got sucked in by the wrong crowd (a bunch of drunk Indians who called him 'Grizz', probably out of jealousy of his luxurious, teenage beard) but hitched on home and threw himself in a few half-way homes and schools over the next year.

Today, a little more warped and wonderfully sensitive than before, Morgan continues to hitch the highways and is now rounding up his fellow road denizens to create the hitchhiking portal, digihitch. Thumb on in and throw in your own experiences and tips. It's 'hitchhiking and road travel in search of soul'.
