A nationally known breeder of Lakeland Terriers, I have been actively involved in the Terrier and pure-bred dog community for over 20 years.

My introduction to the Lakeland came by chance, in the late sixties, when I found a young dog wandering the busy streets of downtown Calgary. Having developed an appreciation for the intelligence and independent spirit of the Wire and Smooth Fox Terriers of my childhood, it is not surprising that I was attracted to this charming character. As fate would have it, my lost and found ad went unanswered and my subsequent decision to keep her began a lifelong devotion to this breed.

The acquisition of our second Lakeland and first 'show dog' brought about the establishment of WeeRuffians (Reg'd) Lakeland Terriers which is now the oldest, active Lakeland breeding kennel in Canada. Over the past 20 years, WeeRuffians dogs have earned much success in the show ring, completing numerous championship titles in both Canada and the U.S. Our dogs have consistently achieved national ranking under Canada's Top Show Dog system. In 1991, our homebred Champion WeeRuffians Jumpin Jack Flash achieved the position of Canada's Top Terrier and Number Three All Breed Dog. One of Canada's all time, top winning Terriers, he was a multiple Best in Show winner and held championship titles in three countries.

In addition to breeding and exhibiting, I am a skilled Terrier groomer and occasionally conduct seminars in the art of "hand stripping' and the care and maintenance of the Terrier coat. As a freelance writer, I have contributed articles to a variety of local and national dog publications, including the Breedlines columns for Dogs in Canada magazine. I am a longtime member of the Canadian Kennel Club and the U.S. Lakeland Terrier Club and have held executive positions with a number of other dog related organizations.

Although still actively breeding, I have semi-retired from exhibiting in order to concentrate on our retail business which specializes in canine fine art and collectibles.

I am presently pursuing my Canadian Kennel Club judge's license and currently reside in South Surrey, B.C. with my husband, Shiro, my son, Mathew and several incorrigible Lakelands.

As a Suite 101 Editor, it is my intent to provide interesting, informative material and recommend websites on all aspects of dog ownership, with a particular focus on breeding and exhibiting purebred dogs.
