I was suddenly thrown into the world of childcare after having my daughter in 1999. I had never experienced the kind of frustrations, worry, and guilt that I did at that time. I was a single mother with what seemed like very few options. A BA in Pshychology hardly prepared me for the situation! So, I found childcare (expensive), went back to work (had to), and one morning while dropping my daughter off, decided I wanted to be a part of more childrens lives, especially after seeing how important her caregivers were to her. So just as suddenly, I entered the world of Childcare and Preschool (and, as I learned to think of it, Not Daycare...We Care for the Child, Not the Day!). Which, of course, was surprise after surprise after surprise. So now, almost 2 years later, I am searching for the perfect alternative...how to do it all. That is how I happened upon Suite101, searching for a way to work at home. I feel that I can relate to the parents out there who are worrying all day about their 8 week old baby in childcare, or who are making barely enough money to pay for the childcare, or need to know what to look for in a childcare provider. I am fortunate to be able to stay at home with my children, while still doing what I love: writing and reading.
