Keith Muraoka likes to get his hands dirty gardening in Gilroy, California. He is a long-time member of the Garden Writers Association of America, and a past and present director of the Western Region. After having served more than six years on the GWAA Board of Directors inthe 1980s, Keith was elected to a new 3-year term in year 2000. His garden columns have won 5 Quill & Troll Awards from GWAA -- the most honored column ever. He has been writing the column for more than 25 years in several newspapers and a regional digest for Flower & Garden magazine. He started writing his weekly column on California Gardening for Suite 101 in March, 1998. Keith has a unique perspective for gardening -- having grown up working at a family-owned retail nursery and then combining this hands-on experience with his degree in journalism. In fact, Keith was the garden editor at a daily newspaper in Santa Cruz, California for 13 years. Gilroy not only is the garlic capital of the world but -- located between San Jose and Monterey -- has numerous micro climates. The area is ideally suited to growing almost anything. |
