Dogs, Zoology, Desktop Publishing, and Fantasy & Sci Fi Books
What do all these have in common? I'm not sure but they are my interests. I suppose it all started with my very first puppy, a beagle. I was terrified of him when my parents brought him home. I developed a unique method of moving through the entire first floor of our home without touching the ground and risking contact with this fearsome beast! We soon developed a bond that would lead to an interest and love of dogs and animals in general.
That interest led me to attend the University of California at Santa Barbara where I attained a B.A. in Zoology. After college, I started a career working for a distributor of greenhouse and nursery supplies. Horticulture is a far cry from Zoology. Despite this company being a Zoo unto itself, I found myself at ground zero. Since this was a family owned, and at that time small company, I was able to experiment in all aspects of the business. I gravitated to the computers, marketing, and desktop design.
To keep my dog loving side happy I support a local non-profit dog club that is active in canine sports. I train and compete with my standard poodle in obedience, agility, and flyball.
Oh yeah, and as far as the books are concerned, when I can scrape together enough time I love to read fantasy and science fiction books. I have been reading these genres since I was in fifth grade. I credit my interest to my parents who started me out with Edgar Rice Burrough's Tarzan of the Apes, JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, and C.S. Lewis' Narnia books. I have a collector's mindset, and have accumulated an extensive library of paperbacks from a wide range of authors.
If you would like to see a list of books I have recently read or that I have purchased and am planning on reading - check out my booklist.
