Wendy Elliott - Profile

Wendy Elliott, Wendy Elliott

Wendy is an accomplished writer, editor, designer and teacher/trainer. She holds a master's degree in distance education from Athabasca University (GPA 4.0), and is a consultant and instructional designer for several Canadian and American online education sites. One particularly challenging and rewarding project was creating a program in Cree for a northern Manitoba community (Wendy doesn't speak Cree!). She has also written, designed and produced many instructional manuals, videos and podcasts for her clients. As a teacher and trainer of Web-based publishing, computer software, and fundraising courses at southern Ontario colleges, she always earns outstanding performance evaluations from her students.

As a volunteer, Wendy has been a co-founder of a literacy organization in Toronto, a board member of a theatre company, and is currently a facilitator in an inner city business program, and a long-time advisor doing international development work for Canadian Executive Services Organization (CESO). Going on assignments for CESO allows her to fulfill one of her loves -- travel. She is an adventurous creature, curious, inquisitive, and delights in discovery. One of the best trips she ever took was an 8-month solo sojourn in an RV around Canada and the United States, from Newfoundland to Alaska, to California, Florida and northward back home.

But her favourite pastime is writing and editing. She started out writing fundraising proposals for charitable organizations, and soon discovered that she had a talent for stringing words together in a logic and compelling manner. Her keen interest in history, especially Canadian history, and in research propelled her to write several plays about historical figures. She is currently working with a composer to write a musical based on the War of 1812. Ironically it was one of her fictional plays, Millennium Madness, which was produced on CBC Radio in 2000. She has had several articles published in magazines, one academic paper published online (The Audiocast Diaries), and is the author of a book on Canadian political scandals (Scandals? We Don't Got No Stinking Scandals). Her two most fascinating and rewarding assignments were to edit the memoirs of a Montreal business man, and to coach a new writer in writing a mystery novel.
