Even as a child, I was fascinated with the lifestyle only the country could offer. Born and raised in a citified, neighborhood environment hastened my way toward a quieter, albeit labor intensive, lifestyle. This was achieved with my first 120 acre farm at the ripe old age of twenty. Since that time, I've moved back and forth, from city to country, learning as much as I could in both situations.

While my main thrust in the publishing world has been in food preservation, Home Food Preservers Magazine, http://members.aol.com/preservers/index.htm, my interests and experiences reach beyond this subject matter. I've taken great pleasure in having shared my life with chickens, horses, goats, sheep, cattle and pigs not to mention various domesticated animals. Huge gardens and small orchards have graced my previous properties, providing food for the stomach and brain.

Learning to be self-sufficient without also becoming an extremist is really what I am all about. Studying cookbooks, food science and natural health/herbal healing information is a passion I entertain often. If something breaks in my house, I fix it. In the spring, our house will need a new roof. My neighbors will see me hauling shingles up the ladder, nails and hammer in the leather pouch strapped to my waist.

My professional working life has been in all phases of accounting; from accounts payable to purchasing to scheduling in the automotive parts manufacturing world. That lifestyle stopped when I was promoted far beyond what I wanted for myself. I was not willing to eat, drink and sleep plastic Mustang lenses for Ford Motor Company. Enter writing and publishing.

In my high school creative writing classes, my teachers made it quite clear to us: you cannot write about what you do not know about. So, I spent my home time gleaning experience. Folders and boxes bulge with notes taken during the twenty-plus years of living and learning. And now I'm ready to share it with the world.

Storey Books provide books for my diversified interests better than any other book publisher. Their site, www.storey.com puts it all into a very well-organized nutshell.
