Claire McKellar - Profile

I am an Artist/Potter who loves gardening and sewing among a number of other things. I paint in watercolours and pastels, and like painting snippets of daily life and objects in the landscape rather than the whole landscape.I use to be a production potter, but I have retired from that and these days I specialise in large vases and platters, which I have a good potter friend make for me.I air brish and handpaint on these pots ,which I glaze and fire to stoneware (1300 deg C).I make the smaller vases myself. I now like the decorating more than the making.I find throwing the very large pots too tiring these days, I must be getting lazy in my old age. My pots are decorated with flowers, fruit, and whimsicsal figures. We have a large country cottage garden that I have developed myself from a bare paddock. We have about 10 acres of park and garden. The garden would be approx. 2 acres. My husband Bill looks after the trees, mowes the grass and tends the orchard and vegie garden. I look after the flower garden. We are both retired and wonder how we ever had time to go to work.
