Bob Thaxton - Profile

After more than 30 years as a newspaper reporter and editor, I've become a free-lance writer, and one of the main reasons is my interest in travel. It has been a lifelong avocation, and while I haven't made it to Europe yet, I have visited the majority of the U.S. states as well as Canada and Mexico. I'm a native Texan and lifelong resident of the state, age 56. My wife Janet and I live in Seguin, a small city of about 30,000 population. Here we're about a 30-minute drive from San Antonio, an hour from Austin, 2.5 hours from Houston, 2.5 hours from Corpus Christi, 3 hours from Laredo, 4 hours from Dallas-Fort Worth and 5.5 hours from South Padre Island. Besides those destinations, I've visited and have grown familiar with numerous others including El Paso, Lubbock and Amarillo. I can't claim to have visited all of the 254 counties in Texas, but I've probably been to 80-90 percent of them. And I've always enjoyed showing Texas to visitors.
