Arnvid Aakre - Profile

Born among Apple Trees in Norheimsund by the Hardanger Fjord of Western Norway - living amid Date Palms by the Nile flood in Cairo, Egypt.

Learned to walk nearly half a century ago, and have used this profession ever since.

First dive into a long relationship with media at the age of fourteen. Established a local political newspaper. Politics was soon put away though, as a more sophisticated approach to life requested attention: Art.

From Art - the compass turned again, this time "back to nature" through establishment of a biological farm on an Island 70 degrees north. Then already an impatient man of 18.

Ecological farming and education lead to (don't ask how) - another coral reef in life's diving exercise: the study of culture and history of Ancient Egypt. Later, with many years focus on Egyptology - on the threshold of making it a profession - a different underwater stream suddenly found Art again.

Colours and huge painting brushes covered many a white canvas and made one-man shows and group exhibitions a regular habit. Selected in home country as one of the main representative in the art movement of the eighties.

Somebody once said, "the person with both feet on the ground is standing still" - so combining Ancient History with Contemporary Art became next step.

Established in 1987 a project by bringing together artists in such various fields as painting, sculpture, textile, photo, video, architecture and more. Then - in the fairy tale country of Egypt - a meeting took place between Contemporary Artists and the 3500-year-old woman and pharaoh Hatshepsut.

UNESCO in Paris gave the project it's patronage and wrote in their official message:

"By working across the boundaries of various disciplines these Norwegian artists and their Egyptian partners are setting an example of holistic art-making in an age of fragmented approaches".

From then on, the Nile had an hold and demanded presence...

"Travelling since walking" along with study of ancient Egypt made an "interesting" combination for tour operators. Suddenly involved in tourism.

Destination manager for two charter operations to Egypt, and work in destination research and travel development. Today Scandinavian Chairman for EgyptMyWay Travel and NorwayMyWay Travel main responsible for hotel booking via Cybercityguides Egypt.

Still travelling - with a surveyor's compass in the pocket, a dear Egyptian wife and two beautiful daughters by the side.

Tomorrows opportunities always a bit above the horizontal earth line
