Anne C. Watkins - Profile

I am a full time freelance writer living in rural Alabama with my husband Allen and our dog, several freshwater aquariums, and our two lovely feathered companions. Allen is a professional musician, recording studio manager and music teacher. Our daughter Laura is married to John and has a stepson, Tyler, who is an amazing little soul. She is also the proud mother to Bailey, our incredible grandson, and Chelsea, our awesome granddaughter.

Rio, a Blue-crowned conure, has been with me for 17 years and Pancho, my orange wing Amazon has been in the family for 13 years. They are wonderful parts of our lives and consider themselves to be at the top of the pecking order! They, along with my previous birds (at one time I bred cockatiels and zebra finches for the pet trade), have provided me with the inspiration for many articles.

My bird-related work has appeared in "Bird Talk Magazine," "American Caged-Bird Magazine," "Parrot World," "Companion Parrot Quarterly," and "Pet Age." I recently completed a book called "The Conure Handbook" (Barron's Educational Series, Inc.).

Several years ago I left my job as publicist with a record label to begin concentrating full time on my writing. I don't just write about birds; my articles and short stories have appeared in such publications as "Angels on Earth," "Writer's Digest Forum," "Vermont Ink," "Old Morgan County Magazine," "Pet Age," "Cullman Connection," "Whispers from Heaven," "Fate" and many others.

I am very pleased to be a regular contributor to Guideposts Publication's 'Listening to the Animals' hardcover book series as well as several other wonderful Guideposts anthologies, such as "Their Mysterious Ways," "Personal Messages," and several volumes of the series, "Comfort From Above." "Chocolate for a Woman's Courage," "Chocolate for a Woman's Soul II" (Simon and Schuster), "Forget-Me-Knots from the Front Porch" (Obadiah Press), "From Eulogy to Joy" (Capital Books, Inc.) and "CeLebrations: Notes to My Pet" are some of the other projects which include my work.

The topics I've written about include, but are not limited to: diabetes, pets, writing, health issues, children, hobbies and crafts, music, and a wide varity of other subjects.

Here's a picture of Allen and me relaxing on a friend's front porch. Yes, that really is a banjo in Allen's hands, and a mandolin in mine, and yes, we really do play them. A dear friend of ours, Mr. Bob Foutz, handmade those beautiful instrument straps for us. Thanks, Bob!
