My first horse hero was Native Dancer, the Gray Ghost of Sagamore, who raced to fame in the 1950s. In early 2007, I joined the Suite 101 team as its Horse Racing Feature Writer .

I'm a graduate of Holgate High School in Holgate, Ohio, and a one-year completed college student in the disciplines of Education and Communications at Defiance College, Defiance, Ohio.

In my background is over ten years (1964-1965/1983-1993) of sports and small town government reporting for three newspapers in my home area. As a young reporter in the '60s, I met, interviewed, and wrote an article about Holgate's favorite son, the Hollywood actor Joe E. Brown (Elmer the Great, Some Like It Hot). Brown frequently returned to his Holgate roots to visit and, in particular, to give support to the local baseball teams.

In Vermont, where I lived for nine years, I helped found a new Lutheran church, Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. I served as article contributor and editor of its newsletter.

Eventually, I gained graduation certificates from the following writing courses: (2002) The Writer's Digest School's "Writing and Selling Short Stories"; (1997) The Writer's Digest School's "The Novel Writing Workshop"; (1995) The University of Toledo's Division of Continuing Education seminar "How to Write Contemporary Fiction" conducted by Dr. Dennis Hensley; and (1968) Westport, Connecticut's Famous Writers School correspondence course in "Fiction Writing".

I also enrolled in the American Writers & Artists Inc. course "How to Successfully Write and Publish Children's Books".

In my local church, I have acted as a teacher and leader in classes and in the annual Christmas pageant. I have served on the committee board of a creative writing workshop for Holgate schools, created a writing seminar, and won (Writer's Digest) recognition for my short story, "Fall". In the area of mailorder marketing, I have published short stories and novelettes.

My memberships include the Toledo Zoo and the Ohioana Library, which endeavors to preserve and to promote the works of artists, muscians, and writers native to Ohio.
