Getting Ripped Off Left and Right

Sorry, Taker, the question isn’t who the hell is Diamond Dallas Page, but rather, who the hell cares about DDP?

To give credit: The WWF creative (or was it WCW creative?) had a good cover up for the fact that it was a totally random person stalking Sara Undertaker (or is it Sara Taker?). But come on! Look at the world of possibilities they had for this. Even if they avoided the obvious, like Kane, Triple H, Stone Cold or any McMahon, there are so many more people that could have made this ridiculous gimmick (which made front page on Wrestle Crap.com) almost worth enduring. Who hasn’t Undertake crossed at one point? But seriously, it could have been Paul Bearer, 1994’s Undertaker (i.e. Brian Lee, who played an imposter Undertaker at the 1994 “Summerslam”) . . . even Kamala would have been a more logical answer than Diamond Dallas Page of WCW!

But getting the hell away from that topic, I don’t know how I feel about Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit losing the tag team titles to the Dudley Boyz on Thursday, June 21's episode of "Smackdown." It does free them both up to win the WWF Championship. On the other hand, their title reign was a little too short (especially for JR to be pushing them as the greatest tag team in the history of wrestling).

And yet, I’d feel ripped off if Stone Cold Steve Austin loses that belt at “King of the Ring” this Sunday. That would leave him with too short a title reign also – I hate short title reigns, in case you can’t tell, unless they’re justified. Even with his switch to a whiney, and now homo-erotic heel, I don’t think Austin deserves this.

That’s something I want to mention real quick, too. Why has Austin suddenly become such a coward? He was such a tough guy as the underdog against Vince McMahon and The Rock. Nothing they did to him – the lumberjack matches, the Iron Man matches, the gauntlets – ever broke him. But two months on Vince’s side and suddenly he can’t handle one stupid Triple Threat match! Oh, and for the record, Triple H would have encouraged a Triple Threat because he knows how manipulate such a situation; he could take advantage of the fact that both Jericho and Benoit want the gold as much as he does.

This is a horrible blemish on Austin’s character. I think he would have been a great heel if he could back up his gusto and bravado with a little Stone Cold attitude. He’s not cold anymore, he’s room temperature.
