Girlfriends! This article is just one of many included in the Valentine's 2000 event at Suite101. Be sure to take the time and enjoy the other articles written by our talented editors. It's Friday night. The guy of your dreams decided that he needed some space and so you are stuck at home with nothing to do but sob into a pint of Ben & Jerry's. You look around your lonely room and let out a wistful sigh. Suddenly there is a knock on your door. As you walk to the door, you rack your brain trying to think of who could be at the door... The door opens up and to your amazement you find SUPER GIRLFRIEND on the other side - complete with your favorite CD's, a deck of playing cards, MORE Ben & Jerry's (your favorite flavor of course) and a dart board with a picture of Mr. Jerk in the middle. Super Girlfriend is capable of brightening your darkest nigh, making you laugh when you thought you never could, understanding the method to your madness, and reminding you that you are loved - even if Mr. Jerk doesn't know better. Every woman has her own super girlfriend (or girlfriends) that she can always count on and lean on whenever she needs to. There is a bond between friends who are that close, and it takes a lot to break that kind of bond. If you are lucky, that bond never is broken no matter what twists and turns your life may take. Girlfriends are the best part about being a woman. I know that I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for the love that I've gotten from my girlfriends. When I felt low and depressed, I could always just pick up the phone and find one of my friends who would listen and make me feel better (even when I would wake them up at 3 a.m.). One of the most special things about girlfriends is the communication that takes place without any words. With just a look, or a laugh, or a roll of the eyes you can know exactly what your girlfriend is thinking. Not only can you speak to each other without talking, but there's that wonderful talent of being able to finish each other's thoughts and sentences. It can almost be eerie when you have a friend who is so close that they can predict you that well. After a while, you get used to it and welcome it - especially on those rare occasions when you are feeling particularly tongue-tied and Super Girlfriend is there is save you by coming up with some excuse for your sudden lack of talking skills.
