recoverEcards

recoverEcards are a great way to show support for women in recovery. It is a wise idea to maintain contact and have an open channel of communication. It is nice if we can focus on the positive, humorous and often joyous minutes of the journey.

Like Bees To The Honey Pot - Such Are The Days Of Our Recovery.
We can do this by making our selves available, physically, by phone and by email. We can go out for coffee or to the movies, and think of a variety of ways to make the minutes full to the brim with useful and interesting things to do. But when time is limited it is handy to have a stock of pertinent cards to let your friends know you are thinking of them. The beauty of recoverEcards is that we can make them ourselves. Or (if time is too precious) find cards that fit particular milestones and celebrations.
Ripple Effect - eCards for Rainy Days
Usually we celebrate 30 days, 60 days, 90 days because this early part of recovery is so treacherous and so hard. Once a women has gotten past the initial '90 meetings in 90 days' stage and can relax just a little bit - the celebrations come about at 6 months, one year and yearly after that.

In the short article Celebrate I talk about other types of issues that women forget to celebrate in recovery. Such as

  • The first time successfully walking to the shops without having a panic attack.
  • The first time shopping alone and not "having to leave the trolley and....
  • The first time that a relationship meant more than being 'right'.....
  • And the first time that standing up for a belief meant more than being popular."
So what is a recoverEcard?
Non-alcohol Invites!
  • They can be hardcopy or email or both.
  • They can be store bought or self made.
  • They can be formal
  • or just a spontaneous thought and 'well wishing event' that is personal and private.

They can also serve the purpose of recording thoughts about recovery and about the process itself.

How do we make them?
  • Try creating them very simply with art materials and then scanning them into the computer. That way you have a hard copy to keep and a permenant resource on the internet as well.
  • Try making collage, scanning it in and then adding words into the design using editing software.
