Odds & Ends and New Contest!

The Metropolitan Theatre Guild (of Minnesota) has moved their site. This amateur group maintains an excellent presence on the Web. Those of you who don't recognize their main site may nonetheless be aware of their Broadway Musicals Database. This enormous undertaking, constantly in progress, is an attempt to create and maintain an on-line database of every Broadway musical. It's obviously a little sketchy now, and their organization of the site will need to be cleaned up as quantity increases, but it's certainly to be a high volume/value site when they start filling things in a little more. (Note that the database page has been added to the official Suite 101 Theatre links page!)

In my official capacity here at Suite 101 (as well as my unofficial capacity as maintainer of the Knapp/Alper Pages) I get many requests for links on an almost daily basis. Although I'll usually take the time to scope out the sites, I rarely make mention of them here: generally they are fan-type sites, focused on a single show or shows which, although interesting in their small circle, fail to support the current week's topic and/or are just too closed for the general theatre audience we (hope to) see here. And the Suite 101 Theatre links page just couldn't support the number of links to sites about specific shows, personalities, and writers — you can find those through the "Search Sites" links.

But this week's crop of pleas for links brought in one of those rare exceptions: a stellar site of use to a larger audience (and which appeals to my avowed Australiophilia): The Adelaide Theatre Guide, created and maintained by Rod Lewis. Yah, granted not many of us will have a chance to get there, but this is a site of great value and interest to theatre and music lovers living in or visiting South Australia. The site is informative, well-organized, well maintained. Every show (within reason) playing or soon to be playing in the area is listed, as are important concert, opera and festival events. Where available there are direct links to BASS (Best Available Seating Service) (a southern Australian ticketing agency which permits secure on-line ordering) and Venue*Tix, — or box office numbers. There's a list of addresses for many, many venues and theatre groups, and contact information for newspapers and magazines in the area. Plus the requisite links to pages about listed shows, organizations and venues. This is the kind of site that made me want to go to the area just to see some shows!

I also get many inquiries about why certain larger sites or lists don't
