Award Sites for the InterimDuring this brief lull, while we trepidatiously await the results of the Tony's (not to mention, yabba dabba doo, the FANY's), let's take a moment to check out some official sites associated with several of the awards. Playbill On-Line maintains a schedule of awards, entitled 1999 Theatre Awards Roundup. It's a basic, alphabetical timetable of many of the New York, national, and international theatrical award presentations, with occasional and sketchy listings of the winners. Of course you can usually find a complete list of winners elsewhere on the site. (These guys are so worried that you might leave their site that they rarely even show any internal links! So don't expect to be able to jump from the timetable to a page showing the winners -- either through a link to an external site or within PO-L.) The Drama Desk awards site is hosted by BuyBroadway. The site lists not only nominees and winners (going back to 1955), but posts the rules and regulations of the awards, lists the nominating committee, presidents and board members, and posts photos of current and previous award ceremonies and winners. Not only do they maintain a searchable database of the winners and nominees, they also maintain a Drama Desk Awards newsgroup. The Village Voice OBIE Awards date back to 1956, and an official site is featured as part of the Village Voice site. Here you'll find a searchable database of winners (the OBIEs only have winners), a number of photos from the ceremonies past, and a history of the awards. The opening page also lists hosts, presenters and judges. The official Tony Awards site is active year-round, and goes well beyond a mere searchable database of current and past nominees and winners (which, of course, it does have). They also present a number of feature articles and interviews (archived in the "Tony Pantheon"), listings of Broadway and National Touring shows (with show details, interviews, synopses, ticket info and purchase links), Broadway news and gossip, and details and photos from past winners of the outstanding regional theatre award.
