6 February is the 50th Anniversary of The Queen's Accession
The Queen returns from Sandringham and is in residence at Buckingham Palace until her departure for Jamaica on 18th February.
The King's Troop of the Royal Horse Artillery will fire an anniversary celebration Royal Salute
in Hyde Park at midday on 6 February. A similar salute will be fired from the Tower of London.
The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will visit Jamaica, New Zealand and Australia from 18th February to 4th March, 2002. The visits to Australia and New Zealand were rescheduled following the postponement of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in October, 2001. Jamaica

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh last visited Jamaica in 1994. Previous visits were made in 1953, 1966, 1975 and 1983. New Zealand - revised programme
The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will visit New Zealand from 22nd to 27th February, 2002.
The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh visited New Zealand in December/January 1953/4, 1963, 1970, 1974, 1977, 1981, 1986, 1990 and 1995. Australia - revised programme
The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will visit Australia from 27th February to 3rd March, 2002. In South Australia, Her Majesty and His Royal Highness will visit Adelaide. Her Majesty will also visit the Barossa Valley and His Royal Highness will visit Ceduna and Port Lincoln. In Queensland, Her Majesty and His Royal Highness will visit Brisbane and Cairns and His Royal Highness will visit Roma. The Queen will open CHOGM at Coolum on Saturday, 2nd March, 2002.
The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh visited Australia in 1954, 1963, 1970, 1973, 1974, 1977, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1986, 1988, 1992 and 2000.
Garden party invitations for accession day babies
The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are hosting two Golden Jubilee Garden Parties this summer at Buckingham Palace and Holyroodhouse Palace in Edinburgh for British citizens currently resident in UK who were born on The Queen’s Accession day, 6th February 1952.
Invitations to these historic events may be applied for in writing via the Lord-Lieutenants’ offices only, (address can be obtained from local council offices. The Buckingham Palace Garden Party for those born in England and the Principality of Wales will be held on 9th July 2002. Applications with copy of birth certificate must be received by 15th February 2002.
