Here is a quick dish towel with Valentine motifs for your holiday gift giving.

Materials:

2 oz Sugar and Cream worsted weight cotton or similar cotton/linen or hemp yarns

1/2 oz of red or other contrasting yarn.

Number 8 American Knitting needles.

Pattern: Moss stitch Row 1: knit one, purl one Row 2: Knit one, purl one

Directions:

Cast on 56 stitches. Knit in moss stitch pattern which I found increases the absorbent surface of the towel. Knit in pattern for two inches length.

Add Motifs:

Rows 1 and 2 motif: Switch to stocking stitch for two rows.

Row 3 motif: Then on third row knit six stitches MC, *then work two stitches CC, knit nine MC,* repeat until six stitches are left. Knit.

Row 4 motif: Purl 5 in MC, *switch to CC for 4 stitches, knit 7 MC*, Repeat across.

Row 5 motif: Knit 4 in MC, *switch to CC for six stitches, purl 5 MC* repeat.

Row 6 motif: Purl 4 in MC, *switch to CC purl two, purl 2 in MC, purl two in CC, purl 5 MC* repeat across.

Row 7 and 8 motif: Return to stocking stitch for two rows.

Body of towel:

Return to moss stitch for 12 inches of length. Then in garter stitch knit two together across the row. Work even for two rows, Knit two together across. Work even for two rows. Knit two together across row.

Add CC and work even for four rows. Bind off.

Loop for hanging:

Pick up two stitches with crochet hook and chain 16 stitches. Join to other side with slip stitch. Turn and single crochet around loop for stength. Break off yarn and pull through last loop. Work in end.
