Graceland MansionAs we travel slowly through the wrought iron gates, the music is building, as is our anticipation. Our shuttle is escalating up a beautiful tree-lined path. The one that takes us directly to the door of the world famous, Graceland Mansion. We are grateful of Gracelands change to a self-guided audio tour. We were confident this time, we would be able to enjoy and soak in the feelings of each room, to our hearts content. Elvis purchased Graceland Mansion for $100,000 on March 26, l957. Only 22 years young at the time, but already known around the world for his wonderful music. He called Graceland home until he died in 1977. Graceland enterprises opened to the mansion to the public on June 7 1982. It still draws over 700,000 fans annually. We exit the shuttle to find friendly Graceland personal, waiting our arrival. The 15-foot custom all-white sofa adorns the main wall, as a large portrait of Vernon Presley hangs above it. At the far end of the living room a pair of stained glass peacocks enhance the entrance to the music room. Beyond them, stands a beautiful ebony Story & Clark baby grand piano, against gold drapes. The dining room is located across the foyer to the left. It abounds with an eight-foot dining table where Elvis, family, friends and staff enjoyed meals as well as poker. A beautiful Chandelier graces the room above the table. Next we're guided to the kitchen. It is decorated in classic 70s fashion with gold and avocado appliances.
