Other Invertebrates
Invertebrates are a unique addition to freshwater aquariums. Though less common, freshwater invertebrates add character to an aquarium, as well as new challenges.
Typically, invertebrates are added to an aquarium to fulfill some sort of necessary function, usually cleaning up after the other residents or aiding in cycling an aquarium. Useful invertebrates include various types of snails, shrimp, and mussels or clams.
While invertebrates add a new depth and complexity to the ecosystem in an aquarium, these animals are sensitive and have specific needs. Performing the necessary research and fulfilling those needs is the first step to successfully keeping freshwater invertebrates.
