On July 28, 2010, the CW premiered its new reality show Plain Jane at 9 pm. This show helps average girls gain the confidence to talk their crushes. In the process, they gain self-esteem and learn to take better care of themselves.

Plain Jane New Reality Show

According to the CW, Plain Jane is a new summer reality series that transforms one woman from the inside out to reveal a brand new woman. Each of the eight episodes will feature a new "Jane" searching for the change of a lifetime. With the help of British fashion expert Louise Roe ("Fashion Police: The 2009 Grammy Awards"), each Plain Jane will receive a head-to-toe style transformation, including new wardrobe and confidence-building exercises. Once the transformation is complete, the formerly Plain Jane will surprise her unsuspecting crush with the new look and reveal her true feelings to him. A love connection is – or isn't – made.

The host Louise Roe watches the tape of each Jane in the beginning of the show, revealing why each person has their secret crush. She then goes with them to their place to see what their wardrobe looks like and to see if their surroundings are even ready for a guy to see. She gets to know the girls and tries to help build their self confidence, by changing the way they see themselves.

Plain Jane vs. The Swan

Plain Jane seems like a more conservative version of the reality show The Swan. According to Wikipedia, The Swan was an American reality show that aired in 2004 on Fox. During this show, supposedly very ugly women and men were given "extreme makeovers" that included several forms of plastic surgery. The title of the series refers to the story of The Ugly Duckling that grows up and becomes a swan.

Plain Jane gives average-looking women the chance to have a fresh start. They make over the girls from the inside out, helping each girl to see themselves as attractive. On the first episode, a girl liked a guy who was her friend for about six years. She liked him the entire time and never had the courage to tell him. She was stuck in the friend zone. She dressed like one of the guys and even acted like one of them. She needed to feel like a woman, to start looking like the type of woman that he would be interested in and the host Louise Roe helped her do so. Louise help her conquer her worst fear, snails and compared this to the guy of her dreams. If she could get over her fear of snails, she could do anything. She started to believe this and finally was able to tell him how she felt.

Plain Jane Gets Her Crush

At the end of the episode, the Jane goes on her blind date with her crush, set up for her by Louise Roe. She is all dressed up and ready to confess to her crush her true feelings. When her crush sees that it is her he is on a blind date with, he seems relieved and happy. She confesses to him that she would like to be more than just friends with him and he just sits their for a moment thinking. Then he says to her that it is funny that she says that, because when they were in college he had a crush on her too. She is so surprised. He said that he was definitely interested in being more than friends.

Three months later they are still together and happy. They thank Louise for everything that she had done to give her the courage to tell him her true feelings. They were both afraid to mess up the friendship, and they both were happy to be together now. Cute show. Great ending for the first episode and Louise has a lot more girls to help.
