Recently, the director of NASA's Ames Research Center in California, Simon “Pete” Worden, released information about the 100-Year Starship, a new program funded by the top secret government agency, DARPA, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the central research and development agency for the United States Department of Defense which is responsible for developing new surveillance equipment since the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the US happened.
This occurred when he gave a talk to San Francisco's Long Conversation Conference. He stated DARPA has $1,000,000 to spend and another $100,000 from NASA for the program, which will develop a new propulsion engine that will take astronauts to Mars or beyond. The problem is that they won't return. The revelation seems like science fiction, reminiscent of the movie, Planet of the Apes and the TV series, Star Trek; however the disclosure is reality.
NASA’s 100-Year Starship
The spacecraft would blast off from planet earth to colonize another one. Mars the third planet from earth, is the one most frequently mentioned. It would, most likely, be a one-way trip because of the time it takes to travel 34,646,418 or 62.8 million miles, due to Mars’ elliptical orbit around the sun.
Humans would have to adapt to an alien world instead of trying to make the planet suitable for them. Worden said the human space program is intended to colonize other planets. He stated that, twenty years ago, if people whispered about this, in “dark bars,” they were fired. He confessed that he was terminated during the Bush administration.
Since his revelation, hundreds of news reports about the program have theorized that the budget implies that the starship compensates for the stalled space program, not a mere research project, while others postulate it’s an attempt to find a way to reach Mars.
NASA’s Silence about the 100-Year Starship
The space agency appears to be evading answering questions. FoxNews.com contacted NASA’s Ames Research Center the week of October 17, 2010 and arranged a phone interview with Worden on Monday, October 25th. It was postponed to Wednesday. Late Wednesday, NASA postponed the call again, before canceling the interview. Worden’s busy schedule was the excuse that was given. After a week and a half of dilly-dallying, DARPA posted a public press release announcing the program, but it provided no more information than was given in Worden's speech.
Some experts aver that any program which suggests putting humans into space for their entire life is doomed because many people react negatively to the idea of leaving planet earth and never returning. Others assert that it’s the only way to colonize an alien planet.
NASA and Colonization: What Experts Say
Speculation differs about colonizing alien planets. Dirk Schulze-Makuch and Paul Davies, in the Journal of Cosmology, have a suggestion and an analogy about sending four astronauts on a no return trip to an alien planet. Their suggestion is to send occasional supplies to them. The flawed analogy is that they compare the astronauts’ risks to the ones Columbus took when he sailed westward. Columbus returned to Europe.
Les Johnson, a highly respected science author, spoke to FoxNews.com. He agreed that a one-way hundred year mission might be the only way to reach other planets. In order to travel the distance to Mars, a starship would need huge amounts of fuel, which add weight. The amount of fuel needed would make it impossible to go on a one way journey to Mars, much less a roundtrip. Johnson said the only solutions are a longer mission using propulsion that hasn’t been invented or is untested. Resolutions are an enormous solar sail receiving energy from the sun or a fusion reactor that generates power without any fuel.
Dr. Chris DePree, head of the Bradley Observatory, said that it appears that the only way to colonize other planets is to have one way treks. He told FoxNews.com that it may be that, as technology improves, the grandchildren of the first Martian colonists could return to earth. DePree added that humans adapting to life on an alien planet would have to develop new breathing apparatuses or use chemical injections to make human life viable. He also said there are astronauts who have volunteered for a one-way mission.
NASA’s 100-Year Starship and UFOs
Suppose Worden hadn’t released information about the secret space craft. People who sighted it would have called it a UFO, because to them it would have been an unidentified aerial object. It’s only recently that the US and the UK have released secret UFO files to the public.
On September 28, 2010, there was a news conference about aliens monitoring nukes.
Respected retired nuclear physicist and UFOlogist Stanton Friedman announced that the US government hides the truth about UFO incidents from the public. Recently released British UFO secret files revealed that former Prime Minister Winston Churchill kept UFO encounters a secret from the public. American Roswell, New Mexico and Kecksburg, Pennsylvania and the British Rendlesham Forest UFO incidents are believed to have been covered up. Is it possible that some UFO sightings were those of the US and other countries top secret space craft?
Question….. Why, with all of the grave issues on planet earth, such as terminal diseases, psychiatric and medical disorders, famine, epidemics and other concerns, is money being spent to colonize other planets, which was kept hidden from the public until Worden’s recent revelation?
