The Cats that Look like Hitler website was founded by Koos Plegt and Paul Neve in 2006, and became widely known after being featured on several television programs across Europe and Australia. Cats that look like Hitler may be a bizarre theme for a website, but most people who go to the site, usually forward the URL to their friends because it is just so funny. This is a parody website and certainly not a tribute to the "mad Austrian house painter" as some conspiracy theorists would like to suggest.
Kitlers – Kitty Hitlers
Known as “Kitlers,” these felines who bear a resemblance to the German dictator may not win prizes at cat shows, but they certainly have a charm of their own. To date there are almost 5000 on the website.
Most cat owners can testify to the fact that their feline companions possess a typically feline facial expression that implies (and underlies) a secret longing for world domination. It is known that all cats want to rule the world – most rule their caretakers anyway – the ruling part is just the nature of the species, but to be a genuine Kitler there has to be a close physical similarity with the notorious little German dictator.
Two distinct characteristics of Kitlers, the little mustache and the funny fringe (or bangs) need to be present. Most Kitlers are black and white moggies and manage to add a manic glint in the eye to make up a perfect kitler portrait.
The Cats that look like Hitler website has became well known in New Zealand when it was mentioned on the Edge Nightshow by Brad Wattson that his cat 'Piggles' was the No. 1 "Kitler" (Kitty/Hitler) in the world.
Does your Cat Look like Hitler?
The blurb on the Cats that Look like Hitler Website says, “Does your cat look like Adolf Hitler? Do you wake up in a cold sweat every night wondering if he is going to up and invade Poland? Does he keep putting his right paw in the air while making a noise that sounds suspiciously like "Sieg Miaow"? If so, this is the website for you."
There is a section for latest Kitlers, best Kitlers, Kitlerwear and Kitler community. At the Café press store kitler fans can get a whole lot of “Furred Reich” merchandise.
Site Not Meant to Glorify Hitler
However, the site is certainly not meant to glorify the dictator, rather make fun of him by comparing him to 'a bunch of fluffy, cute moggies'. Like living cartoons.
For those who think their furry friends might qualify, the site owners are looking for cats with features like the toothbrush mustache, the 'flock-of-seagulls hairdo’, or even an evil glint in its eye.
The site was also spotlighted by Stephen Colbert on The Colbert Report on July 26, 2010.
Forget lolCats, Spend Time with a Kitler
So If you want a laugh, forget lolCats and other cute kitty sites, this websites has more adorable cats than any prize cat show and when one looks at the Kitlers in the context of the name of the site and their black and white markings (mostly, some are grey and others ginger), you can’t stop giggling. For days and days. The comments below the photos are also a great source of amusement.
