The 2010 BMX Masters in Cologne, Germany were from July 16 to 18, featuring some of the world's best BMX Freestyle Dirt, Park and Super Ramp riders.

The BMX Masters, as close to a BMX "Worlds" as the world can get – took place July 16th to 18th, 2010 in Cologne/Dusseldorf, Germany's Jugendpark, a huge weekend of legendary riding, sun and of course Rockstar Energy Drink. The contests included 400 riders from 30 countries competing in Pro and Am divisions in Park, Dirt, Flatland, and the one-of-a-kind Super Ramp. BMX GIrls competed in Park and Flatland events. All of the old-school fans had the added treat of Bob Haro himself, the founder of BMX Freestyle, presenting never-seen-before photos and illustrations in the Oldschool-Zone.

BMX Masters Girls' Park

Never before had this many ladies registered for the BMX Masters and in the finals, 18 ladies from all over the world competed in the Girls Park. Nina Buitrago (USA) came out on top but high points of the event also came when Camila Harambourn (ARG) pulled a gnarly No-Handed Backflip and Mini Park (KOR) came this close to being the first female to land a flare in a competition. Basically the overall impression was that yes, girls can ride just as tough as the guys.

  2. Camila Harambour [ARG]
  3. Mini Park [KOR]
  4. Kayley Ashworth [UK]
  5. Eva Gabrielle [USA]

BMX Masters Girls' Flatland

Initially scrapped for this year, there was such a demand and an outpouring of support for the Flatland event that DeepBMX and Power Balance stepped up to sponsor the event and the prize money, so all is right in the BMX world once again and the Flatland went off as hoped! In the BMX Girls, the German ladies dominated the Flatland.

  1. Julia Preuss [GER]
  2. Monika Hinz [GER]
  3. Aleks-Sandrine Neumuller [GER]
  4. Nele Biener [GER]

BMX Masters Men's Flatland

One of the first surprises of the weekend was when Adam Kun (HUN) came out on top in Pro Flat Finals, outscoring favorite Matthias Dandois (FRA). Dandois is generally viewed as the best Flatland rider in the world and was in first after qualifiers, but Kun narrowly edged him out by just a fraction of a point. But Matthias was not blown away completely – he returned full throttle, winning Suzuki’s Best Combo Contest.

  2. Matthias Dandois (FRA)
  3. Dominik Nekolny (CZE)
  4. Jesse Puente (USA)
  5. Shintaro Misawa (JPN)

BMX Masters Men's Park

Never a dull moment when the15-year-old Brett "Mad Dog" Banasiewicz (USA) is involved these days and the BMX Masters was no exception. Banasiewicz, recent winner of the second ASA Big Air Triples event of the season, landed a perfect Cashroll in Pro Park Finals, a trick that had never been pulled before in a BMX competition, which helped him soar into first place. Despite X-Games Gold medalist Daniel Dhers (VEN) throwing down fearless moves like his Barspin to Lookdown Corked 720, it wasn't enough to keep Brett out of first place.

  2. Daniel Dhers (VEN)
  3. Mark Webb (UK)
  4. James Foster (USA)
  5. Michael Beran (CZE)

BMX Masters Dirt

The Dirt Finals at the BMX Masters are always one of the biggest highlights of the BMX season every year and of course this year was no different with American riders taking the first three spots. After a tight contest, TJ Ellis (USA), took first place by exploding all over the place with a perfect Tailwhip Frontflip.

Even in the prelims Ellis came out strong, killing it with a massive Superman Flip over the first 30-foot double that was insane. James Foster (USA) busted out an unbelievable Double Truck to Downside Whip. Banasiewicz was on the podium (again!) for the Dirt event, too!

  1. TJ Ellis (USA)
  2. Brett "Maddog" Bansiewicz (USA)
  3. Cory Nastazio (USA)
  4. Ben Wallace (ENG)
  5. Alejandro Caro (COL)

BMX Masters Super Ramp

Daniel Dhers (VEN) and Ben Wallace (ENG) handily made it to the finals, riding with aggressive style, but the young guns were putting on the pressure. Alex Coleborn (ENG) killed it in the prelims, throwing down a breathtaking, huge Barrel Roll over the spine straight into a perfect 900. So in the end, it was the newcomer, 17-year-old Coleborn defeating veteran Dhers in the Super Ramp with a 900 Air and a stunning Flair to Footjam on the sub box in the finals. Ondra Selz (CZE) didn’t make the podium, but showed he was a contender when he nailed the first Frontflip Flair ever pulled on a miniramp.

  2. Daniel Dhers (VEN)
  3. Michael Beran (CZE)
  4. Ben Wallace (ENG)

The BMX Masters are in the history books, but if fans still need more, check out the FreecasterTV site. There are amazing vids, including the footy of the girls park, Ladies Ride Hard by Esprit BMX where Mini Park (KOR) almost landed the first flare by a female in a competition! Look for Mad Dog's Cashroll a thing of beauty on YouTube.
