- Best Buy Black Friday Ad Shows Nook for - Nook Photo from Barnes and Noble Media Kit
Throughout the fall, ereader price drop rumors have been flying. On November 12 and 13, 2010, the Internet was littered with the Best Buy scans that confirm the rumor of a $99 Barnes and Noble Nook. The big question is if the Kindle will have a temporary price drop as part of the annual Thanksgiving shopping sales known as Black Friday and Cyber Monday. All of those are still just rumors, because Amazon has not announced anything yet. There are some shopping deals already for ereaders, including refurbished and previous generation ereaders.
The $99 Nook eReader
To see the Best Buy scan for yourself, go to Electronista's Black Friday ad scans. The Barnes and Noble Nook will be a Best Buy doorbuster sale. The wi-fi Nook will be $50 off at the participating stores, making it $99. The sale price is for the regular Nook. The best hope for Nook Color Black Friday deals will be along the lines of accessories and covers.
Although they aren't always $99, there are some refurbished Nooks that sell for good prices on Barnes and Noble's Ebay and Buy.com stores. On November 13, 2010, Buy.com has a $99 wi-fi Nook, which has been refurbished and has a Barnes and Noble limited warranty. Barnes and Noble has refurbished 3G + wifi Nooks for $119 at their eBay store.
Amazon's Black Friday Store
Amazon has a Black Friday Deals page to bookmark and a promise of tweets about Black Friday 2010. They have had early Black Friday sales and have matched Walmart on some prices, so it looks like Amazon intends to be an aggressive force on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The Astore at Amazon is set up for Black Friday 2010, and it has Kindle 3 and Kindle covers, but right now they are still set at the regular price.
Amazon has been known to offer Kindle shopping deals on previous generations of the Kindle through Woot (the Kindle dropped $40 in July for a brief sale) and their Warehouse. Amazon sells refurbished Kindles through their Warehouse Deals page. This is slightly different than buying used Kindles from the Amazon sales page, because the refurbished Kindles still have a 30 day Amazon return policy. Be sure to read the fine print about refurbished Kindles, because they do not always include power cords. Those often have to be bought separately. Right now the refurbished Kindle 2 is more expensive than a new Kindle 3.
There are so many different Black Friday ad websites that it can be overwhelming, but shopping for specific ereader deals is easier because they are sold in limited stores. Barnes and Noble is clearly willing to allow the Nook to drop to $99, at least at Best Buy. Walmart also carries the Nook, and it is likely they will match the Best Buy price. If Amazon has a Kindle sale, it will be on the Black Friday Deals page. Staples, Best Buy, and Target also sell Kindles, and there have long been rumors that Staples will drop the price of the Kindle for Black Friday.
