Middle Eastern Affairs
The Middle East is centred on that crescent of land curving around the Eastern Mediterranean. Stretching inland from there, its borders are ill-defined, but all would agree that it's a paradox.
Sometimes called the Cradle of Western Civilization, it also gave rise to three of the world's major religions. A beautiful land of ancient history, it also is rich in natural vistas. Home to vast oil reserves that produce fabulous wealth for some, the Middle East is afforded power and standing on the world's stage. Yet it's also a region of poverty, illiteracy, and gender inequality. Battle-scarred and violence prone, it is indeed a conundrum. Join us on Suite 101 and read more about these fascinating lands.
