BroadwayStars.com
A site devoted to gossip, news, tidbits, gossip, promotion, demotion, opinion, and gossip. Their greatest asset -- aside from gossip, that is -- is a listing of the most significant theatre-related news sites as well as a daily roundup of what they consider the most significant news from those sites -- this being a tremendous resource which I use almost daily.

TheaterMania
TheaterMania.com provides a less New York-centric view of the theatre. The site defaults to a kind of generic view, but choose any of more than 25 "scenes" -- from Atlanta to Washington DC -- and the page reformats to highlight that particular city, with links, stories, and reviews to match. The site attempts to provide a meeting place for "Novice and Experienced Theatergoers," "Industry Professionals," and "Show, Network, and Content Partners." Become a member for special features and discounts.

Playbill On-line
The big Daddy of theatre oriented sites, presented by American Express. It is an enormous, wide-ranging site, updated constantly. It has feature articles about new and upcoming shows, celebrities, show listings, job listings, a searchable list of bios, a multimedia area, and a chat area. Members received occasional discounts to shows. And you can purchase tickets online. (Check the archives for a full review of the site.)

The London Theatre Guide
One of the premier sites devoted to London theatre, providing (according to the site itself) "News , Listings , Reviews , Seating Plans , Tickets , Map , Venues Tours and Walks and more...."

Broadway Online
(Formerly Theatre.com) No longer updated. What remain are the links to purchase video of shows and archives of old articles.

World Wide Arts Resources
An arts-specific search engine, divided into more than 250 categories. The theater resource area is subdivided into several sub-categories: Dance Resources, Opera Resources, Theater Resources, Theater Schools, Theater Schedules, Theater Publications, Commercial & Technical Resources. (The Theater Resources area itself, devoted to specific theatres, contains 120 links.)

Theatricopia
A cheery, simple, and ultimately very successful relatively short list of links provided by Jill Hobgood. Excellent division of categories, and light on graphics for quick loading.

Tony Awards Online
A professional and extremely informative site, brought to you by Laurel Media, Inc., The American Theatre Wing and The League of American Theatres and Producers, Inc., about the history of the Antoinette Perry Awards, commonly known as the Tonys. Features extensive news, gossip, games and contests, articles, interviews (where you may be asked to provide questions in advance), an index of currently playing shows, a newsgroup-type forum, a photo gallery of award ceremonies of the past, and a section of currently playing shows for kids. And what would this site be without a searchable database of information about the Tony Awards of the past and, when timely, present?

Cabaret Hotline
S. V. Hamstra's site devoted to cabaret around the world. Schedules, listings, links, recordings, personalities. More than 240 pages large!

Internet Theatre Database
Cleanly designed with a straightforward interface, jam-packed with actors, directors, writers, creative and technical personnel, cross-linked to the shows they were involved with, in an actual, searchable database. Currently focussed on the last fifty years of Broadway shows, they have plans to expand into off-Broadway, regional, and West End listings.

The Internet Magazine of Stage Reviews and Opinion. An (approximately) weekly ezine that contains reviews and criticism of current shows, written by knowledgeable and inciteful theatre professionals and critics. One of the elder statesmen of theatre ezines.

Talkin' Broadway
Full-fledged, full-featured, one of the most visually outstanding theatre sites, with 27 contributors, featuring reviews of shows in NY, the US, Canada, and London, of cast albums and restaurants, interviews with theatre luminaries, a history and photo gallery of Broadway, a listing of current NY and London shows, a high volume chat area, and the brilliant, witty stories and essays of V.J.

CurtainUp
A site designed, coded, and written primarily by author, Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk member Elyse Sommer (with help from several other writers around the globe). I find her criticism to be exactly what the embattled theatre world needs. It is both nurturing and caring, written with all of the love of a true devotee.

Better Living Through Show Tunes
Bill Jennings is devoted to the music of the theatre. A beautifully designed site chock full of images of CD and record covers. Mr. Jennings offers opinions about who the great composers of the theatre are, an overview and short catalogs for the Varese Sarabande, Painted Smiles, and Rhino Records labels, a short list of recording releases.

New York Theatre Wire
This ezine is supported by La MaMa E.T.C., Jean Cocteau Repertory, Theater for the New City and Ubu Repertory Theater, so it is understandable that it's focus is on off-off and off-Broadway. The site contains such categories as "Poor Richmond's Almanack," which is a listing of long-running shows arranged by ticket price. Also, articles and reviews about current and upcoming off- and off-off- seasons, the theatre companies, reviews and gossip, and theatre employment classifieds. There's even an area where you can download and print discount coupons.

New York Theatre Experience
A great place to go for listings of performance schedules of shows in the New York City area, as well as news, reviews and commentary. Owned by the New York Theatre Experience, a non-profit organization, and sponsored in part by TeleCharge.

Leonard Bernstein.com
Not much short of an online biography of one of America's greatest musical resources. Falling somewhere between a museum and a CD-ROM profile, the site is organized around the metaphor of a "virtual" studio, the room where Bernstein worked and entertained. A beautifully designed site, with gorgeous graphics, oodles of images, RealAudio sound files, and QuickTime movies (with audio).
