International Alliance for Women in Music
This is quite an extensive, somewhat scholarly site. It's got many archived articles, an abundance of historical and current information and resources about composers and their works, excellent links, and more. Obviously targeting women, this site is a wonderful resource for anyone.


The Muse's Muse
A wide-ranging, enthusiastic site, which offers links, columns, samples, interviews, articles, and chats. This site has a nice, songwriting-community feel.

This online bookstore, aimed especially towards the songwriter, covers all facets of music, indexed under individual categories, such as songwriting, law, performing, recording, publishing, etc. Focused, yet exhaustive.


Jeff Mallett's Songwriter Site
This is probably not the longest list of songwriter links, but I give it thumbs up for the overall diversity and quality of the many that are here.


MPA Music Publishers List
Alphabetized links to information, including contact names, of all the publishers (and each publisher’s imprints) who belong to the Music Publishers Association.


The Songwriter
This is a great site put out by the International Songwriters Association, with loads of news, interviews, FAQs, trivia, links to publishers, labels, and songwriters, plus the ISA's membership spiel.

ASCAP
This membership-run major performing rights group has the standard member info, plus a searchable database of titles, writers, performers, and publishers (I use it to see if my title is unique)and an "arts and commerce" area dedicated to the biz.


Lawgirl
Lawgirl addresses issues of intellectual property in the music and entertainment fields in a very accessible manner, covering topics such as copyrights and trademarks. She also hosts a moderated Q&A forum and an unmoderated bulletin board.


Library of Congress U.S. Copyright Office
Here is the official site of the official place to register copyrights. You can get the latest legal updates, find general information, download forms, and search registrations, among other things.


BMI
Another of the Big Three performing rights organizations, with the requisite member info, plus business, publishing and legal areas and a searchable database.


SESAC
The only for-profit performing rights organization of the three majors, SESAC holds its own nicely, with a loyal following. Check out why here.
