Folklore and Mythology Electronic Texts
Prof. Asliman's site is one of the net's most comprehensive academic folklore collections. The collection, while not graphics-intensive, is huge. The site focuses primarily on European stories, although some tales from other parts of the world are also presented. A number of sections feature monster-related stories. MermaidNet- Where the Sirens Scream
A unique and gorgeous site featuring abundant information on merfolk in legend, fiction and popular culture. Both traditional, alluring mermaids and more fearsome sea-going folk, such as the kappa, the merrow and the bunyip, make their homes here. In addition to folkloric and literary information, MermaidNet presents sections on mermaid doll collecting, ocean-inspired artwork and even mermaid costuming and photography.

An impressive collection of culturally diverse folkoric resources. Encyclopedia Mythica covers a variety of mythology-oriented topics, including folkloric and legendary creatures.(Due to the site's encyclopedia format, the individual articles tend to be short.) EM also features a call for submissions for those who wish to share mythological information.


Gareth Long's Encyclopedia of Monsters, etc.
An extensive cross-cultural collection of short monster descriptions. It is not graphics-intensive, although many entries, such as the Tengu, the Banshee and the Redcap, feature illustrations. The number and variety of creatures presented here is impressive.

Cryptozoology
